[last update: july 31, 2004]...Having never had a proper full length LP or CD release of his work, Billy Starr may remain one of Rockabilly's more obscure figures. Born in 1918 in Wesleyville, Kentucky, Starr recorded a number of Rockabilly and Country Western tracks throughtout the 1940s and '50s. His most popular single "Steppin' Out" was rerecorded by himself later in his career and was also covered by the likes of Jimmy Wakely, Johnny Bond, and Ernest Tubb. Three of his other tunes have made appearences on recent CD compilations. Besides these few scattered facts, not much else is known about Billy Starr. This website was created in the hope that anyone with any other information on Billy Starr might be willing to help paint a more complete picture of the man's life and work. jackaltonkennedy@yahoo.com.
